3rd Annual Y College Tour - March 21-28, 2014 - DESTINATION: NEW ORLEANS, LA

This year our educational journey in 2014 will feature visits to: University of Florida, Florida State, FAMU, Tuskegee, Louisiana State (LSU), Xavier, Dillard, University of South Florida along with several historic visits to Montgomery and Birmingham, AL.

 

Goals:  Motivate Students to Pursue Post-Secondary Education

Assist students with planning and decision making related to their educational future

Introduce students to various types of college campuses (size, academic focus, campus life) to expand their knowledge of college admissions procedures

 

Explore different cultural and historical sites (ie…Civil Rights Museums, New Orleans, etc)

 

Who should attend?

Students grades 8-11 who have a desire to attend and complete college

What to expect?

Opportunities to explore ten collegiate campuses throughout 3 states

Admissions presentations provided by collegiate staff and professional tour guides

Exploration of various cities and cultural visits to local attractions

Opportunities to connect with collegiate staff

Building new, positive peer friendships

YMCA College Tour Family and Student Requirements

 Event date: March 21-28, 2014

 Attend 3 mandatory Parent/Guardian and student meetings. All meetings will be held on a Tuesday evening at the Lauderhill Community YMCA.

 Parent/Guardian and Student Orientation – January 14, 2014 – 6:00pm
 Parent/Guardian and Student Meeting – February 18, 2014 - 6:00pm

 Parent/Guardian and Student Final Meeting – March TBD – 1hr

 Cost:


$250 Members: (must be current in membership dues and/or regularly attend the YMCA After-School Program).

 $400 Non-members

 This includes charter bus transportation, hotel stay, t-shirt, bag, tour, journal and amusement park entry.

 Meals-students are responsible to pay for all lunch and dinners for the duration of the trip. (suggested meal cost: $20/day = $160)

 Payment Schedule:  $50 non-refundable Fee due on November 29th; Second Payment December 20th; Third Payment January 17th and Final Payment February 14th.
